Three Peaks in Three Days

19/20/21st May 2023

In May we are attempting to do the Three Yorkshire Peaks in Three Days – that’s Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Traditionally the challenge is to complete all three peaks in 12 hours… so why is completing the three peaks in three days such a great feat for us?

Passing through the gate at Ingleborough National Nature Reserve

On 19th May we will be accompanied by some of the students from West SILC School in Leeds on our climb up the first of our peaks – Pen-y-Ghent.

Pen-y-Ghent stands at 694 m and will be the first peak for many of the students and volunteers who are completing this challenge. It will really be a feat of endurance and stamina. Thanks to the support from Gordon McGregor, who manufactures the Paratreker, we will have use of these sturdy manual all-terrain wheelchairs which will carry the students who have mobility disabilities. The students will have the important job of steering the wheelchairs whilst our hardy team of volunteers from CBRE Global Workplace Solutions (GWS), who are joining us on this day, will push/pull the wheelchairs to the top of the mountain.

On the following day, the 20th May we will be climbing the highest peak in the Yorkshire Dales – Whernside, which stands at 736m. This time it is a challenge for the Access the Dales ambassadors, some of whom will be using our TerrainHoppers and others will be using the Paratrekers. We will be supported by some students who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards.

On Sunday the 21st May we will be attempting to get our founder, Debbie North to the summit of Ingleborough. We had one attempt earlier this year, but we failed to do it. Can Debbie get to the top… we shall have to see!

As always, we are so grateful of the support we get from our trustee and mountain leader - Jonathan Smith of Where2walk

Ingleborough in the distance

You can help us raise the much needed funds in several ways… you can either give a donation to the charity through our Just Giving page or you can join us on the walks and collect sponsors for the walk. Please let us know if you are planning to join us on one or all three of the days, the choice is yours. Once we know you will be joining us, then we will let you know all the details and we can send you out a sponsor form.

We are also offering a corporate sponsorship package for any businesses or organisations who wish to donate to Access the Dales, please follow the link for more details.

We do hope that some of you will be able to join us on the three walks.

Are you up for the challenge?
