Try Your Hand at Boccia

We are delighted to be able to share with you the opportunity to have a go at playing the Paralympic sport of Boccia with Nateby and Wharton WI on Tuesday 5th April at the Mansonic Hall, Kirkby Stephen.

Boccia is a target ball sport which tests both muscle control and accuracy. From a seated position, players propel balls to land as close as possible to a white marker ball, known as the Jack. Two sides compete as individuals, pairs or as a teams. Balls can be rolled down a ramp, thrown or kicked. If a player is unable to release the ball with their hands, they can use assistive devices, such as a head pointer.

Inspired by David Smith MBE, European, World and Double Paralympic Boccia Gold medal champion, the WI have trained leaders who run regular weekly sessions in both Kirkby Stephen and Orton. The session lasts for an hour, starting at 2pm

And if you get hooked on the sport you can always have a second go at Boccia on Thursday 7th April at the Market Hall in Orton. The session starts at 2pm
