Multi - sensory walk along the route of the old railway from Richmond

Join us on 22 April 2026 for a relaxed, inclusive sensory walk designed especially for people with sight impairments. This gentle 3-mile guided walk begins in Richmond and follows a flat, wide, well-maintained path to Easby Abbey.

Delivered in partnership with Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust and Access the Dales, the walk has been carefully planned to create a welcoming, supportive, and engaging outdoor experience.

The route follows part of the old railway line, providing a smooth, even surface with wide paths that allow participants to walk side by side comfortably. This makes it ideal for guided walking, conversation, and shared exploration. Along the way, we walk beside the beautiful River Swale, where the sounds of flowing water, birdsong, and rustling trees create a rich sensory environment.

Led by an experienced walk leader, this multi-sensory experience encourages participants to connect with the landscape through touch, sound, and smell. From the textures of natural materials underfoot to the changing atmosphere along the riverside, the walk offers a meaningful way to experience the outdoors beyond sight.

At Easby Abbey, there will be time to gently explore the historic ruins, take in the peaceful surroundings, and enjoy a moment of rest before returning.

This is more than just a walk—it’s an opportunity to enjoy nature, history, and connection in an inclusive and supportive setting.
